Remember, God said His handiwork was “very good.” When He finished that creative whirlwind week, He not only tagged it #verygood, but He also sent Adam and Eve out to explore, engage, and enjoy the wonder of the creation. They were sent out to celebrate it as the Psalmist did so many years later: “The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters” (Psalm 24:1-2).
The doctrine of Creation should not serve first as a starting point for Christians to fight with materialists. It should fundamentally serve as a call to wonder (with a capital W!) and to worship the magnificence of our Creator. Remember, the redemption through Jesus, while God’s crucial act of grace, is not His first. His Creation is.
Take some time today and celebrate the grace God showers upon you in creation. Wonder at the intricacies of the human body. Marvel at the variety of living creatures, plants, and organisms. Celebrate the magnificence of the celestial canopy. Worship the One who made it, gave it, and sustains it.
And imagine—all we wonder, marvel, and celebrate serves as a broken marker for the New Heaven and Earth that will one day be our place of eternal worship through the blood of the Lamb Who shepherds his people.
