Do You Have Financial Peace?2 min read

I once had a very uncomfortable discussion with a guest pastor who was filling in at our church one Sunday. After the services were over, we were in pastor’s office chit-chatting and he asked me if I was “happy with my salary.” How do you answer that question? I honestly don’t remember my answer, but I remember clear as day where he was headed with this conversation. He continued to press me and eventually offered me an “opportunity” to sell items in a multi-level marketing company.

I share that short vignette to assure you that with my next questions I only want to help and not offer you the next scheme to come down the pike.

If you’re a professional church worker here in our Michigan District, I want to know how your finances are going. Are you on a budget? Do you and your spouse agree on financial matters, or is it a point of contention? Does concern over finances impact your ministry?

The Commission on Ministerial Growth and Support wants to help. Our task is “to enrich the whole person health—emotional-spiritual-physical-financial-relational—of Professional Church Workers through promotion, education, referral assistance and advocacy.”

In order to enrich the financial health of our Professional Church Workers, we have just recently passed the motion to offer $50 toward the purchase of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. Plus, if you choose to attend a local class you can receive an extra $10 off by making your purchase through Erwin Gunnells (erwin.gunnells@daveramsey.com) and mentioning the “Michigan District discount.”

Financial Peace University (FPU) teaches God’s ways of handling money. Through video teaching, class discussions, and interactive small group activities, FPU presents biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you’ve dreamed you could be. This plan will show you how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more! FPU classes meet for around an hour and a half each week for nine weeks. You can purchase the home study version, attend an online course, or attend a local class. You can find out more about this course here.

To receive your $50, simply submit your proof of purchase to the Commission on Ministerial Growth and Support at the District Office. The address is:

3773 Geddes Rd.

Ann Arbor, MI 48105-3098
